Hello everyone! I’m Jamie Thomson, and I’m very pleased to introduce myself to the Townsite community. It is wonderful to connect with all of you and to support Kendra’s goals for the Northville, Novi, and Plymouth area and the greater Metro Detroit region. I’m happy to share a bit about who I am and what I do. My work as both a digital designer and an artist is a true passion, and I look forward to becoming an active and contributing member of this community. I have always valued environments that encourage creativity, which is why I balance working from home with shared workspaces. Long before this was common, that rhythm helped me stay focused, collaborative, and innovative in my web design and brand development work.

My professional life blends art, design, and continuous learning. Beyond digital design, I’m active in the ceramics community through the Clawson Clay Guild, and I exhibit my artwork as a member of Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale. You can follow my artistic work and see my latest pieces at jamiethomsonart.com or through my art brand, Brilliant Bluejay. Professionally, I support a small number of freelance clients through Jamie Thomson Designer LLC while balancing my day job with TownSites. This dual path reflects my flexibility and dedication to serving individuals, businesses, and agencies alike. Working solo taught me how to be adaptable and responsive, and those strengths have supported my roles in customer support, web design, and QA here at TownSites.

My path into design and art is a bit unconventional. I started my career as a clinical psychologist, which gave me a meaningful understanding of human behavior and communication. Over time, I felt increasingly drawn toward the expressive world of art and design. I eventually stepped away from psychology and earned an Associate Degree in Graphics Technology, building on early art training. That shift opened the door to web design and brand identity work, allowing me to pair analytical thinking with visual communication. My passion for art has always guided me and continues to shape how I approach design and creativity.

As an artist, I have had the privilege of exhibiting my work widely. I’ve participated in numerous group exhibitions across Michigan and nationally, sharing a range of paintings and ceramic pieces. Recent highlights include shows at the Gallery at Brewery Park, Paint Creek Center for the Arts, and the Flagstar Strand Theatre Gallery. My work has also appeared at Hatch Art and the Detroit Contemporary, as well as in several national online exhibitions. I stay involved in the broader art community through my membership at Lawrence Street Gallery, where I also serve as webmaster and digital coordinator, as well as through the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors and The Guild of Artists and Artisans.

I have lived in Michigan for many years now and feel deeply connected to the Metro Detroit area and its creative community. My background in psychology still informs much of my work, helping me create user-centered digital experiences and art that resonate with people. My career in design and art grew naturally from a lifelong love of creating, and even as my business has evolved, I have maintained strong client relationships across the country. I still look back fondly on my early freelance days in Cocoa Village with the old 3-2-1 area code, but Michigan is where I have built my life, my career, and my artistic practice. I am grateful for the chance to be part of the Townsite community and look forward to contributing my skills to our shared neighborhoods.
